Congratulations to our clients at COSIA (Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance) for their finalist nomination for the 2014 Emerald Awards for their use of LEAP in the Algar Restoration Pilot Project.
Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA) is an alliance of oil sands producers focused on accelerating the pace of improvement in environmental performance in Canada’s oil sands through collaborative action and innovation. The COSIA companies share a common commitment to environmental stewardship and have invested significant resources into innovative approaches to restore footprint and improve woodland caribou habitat.
COSIA has utilized LEAP to first establish current baseline footprint estimates for more than 32,000 km2 of boreal forest (the Southern Athabasca Oil Sands Area), then to guide restoration activities on the 56,915 hectares Algar area southwest of Fort McMurray. COSIA has recently completed their third year of restoration activities in Algar.
The Emerald Awards recognize and reward the excellent environmental initiatives undertaken each year by large and small corporations, individuals, not-for-profit associations, community groups and governments. Each year the Foundation receives nominations in eleven established categories. Nominations open in November and close at the end of February.
A panel of knowledgeable judges, with cross-sectoral experience, carry out an independent evaluation based on criteria outlined in the nominations package and select the finalists and recipients.
This is the 23rd year for the Emerald Awards and they are being presented this year in Calgary on June 5th. For more information about the Emerald Awards, visit: http://emeraldfoundation.ca/emerald-awards/
We wish our clients at COSIA good luck!
